I used an oscillating multi tool to cut down my jambs and casing but a small pull saw would work too.
Best way to cut door jambs for laminate flooring.
Turn it on and cut through the jamb moving the blade from left to right.
First of all you will need a scrap of laminate and then a scrap of the pad that will go under the laminate.
Cutting the door jamb.
Starting on one side or the other is easier then starting in the middle.
Grab a scrap plank of flooring and use it as a guide to get the proper height.
In case you haven t seen it on the previous page and unless you are laying a continuous laminate floor the sketch below highlights how the threshold that covers the join between the two rooms should finish at the door way it is tight in between the door jambs also central underneath the door.
Position a handsaw flat on top of the tile.
Cut down the doorjambs and casing so the flooring can slide under them photo 3.
Lay the small piece of laminate with the pad under it up against the door jamb lay the saw flat on the laminate using it as a guide.
Hold the laminate steady as you cut.
Put on a pair of goggles lay the saw on the floor grasp the handle and set the blade on the left side of the jamb.
Use your finger to hold the saw flat and cut through the door jamb or casing.

You will need to both of these to cut the proper height of the jamb.
Place a tile upside down on top of the newspaper next to the door jamb or casing.
Remember that you cannot use a regular saw as it will damage irreversibly the door jamb and you won t be able to obtain a neat look.
In order to cut the door jambs you need to use a pull saw or a regular back saw as their teeth are sharp and the blade is very thin.
If you do this without the pad then the jamb will be too tight for the laminate to flow freely.
